Maryland horse breeders announce new board members

The Maryland Horse Breeders Association membership has elected four returning, and one new member to the 2024 Board of Directors. Dictated by MHBA bylaws, the annually held election fills five open seats on the board. Those elected will serve for the next three years.

Returning to the board, after having served in the past, are Brooke Bowman, Michael Horning, Josh Pons and David Wade. Phil Schoenthal joins the Board for the first time.


·       Brooke Bowman, DVM is a veterinarian practicing in Chestertown, Maryland. He is a former manager of Heritage Stallions.
·       Michael Horning breeds and owns horses with his wife Debbie. The couple, who live in Potomac MD, have horses in training plus young stock, three broodmares and a stallion share.
·       Josh Pons, owns Country Life Farm in Bel Air and Merryland Farm in Hydes, MD with his brother. They stand stallions, and operate racing and breeding partnerships.
·       David Wade is the general manager of Northview Stallion Station in Chesapeake City, MD and manages Sycamore Hall Farm. He owns three broodmares, three race horses and young stock.
·       Phil Schoenthal is a trainer in Fair Hill, MD.  He lives in Lincoln University, PA. He owns horses in training and a stallion share.

The five join current directors William K. Boniface, Amy Burk, Henry “Tim” Clark, Charles Fenwick, Jr., Lisa Hofstetter, T. K Kuegler, Grace Merryman, Kent A. Murray, Gina Robb and Thomas Rooney.
