The richest non-Breeders’ Cup in the country for older horses has drawn a field of seven, including the defending champ.

Caixa Eletronica will challenge six foes — and race caller Larry Collmus’ facility with foreign languages — in defending his title in Saturday’s $1.5 million Charles Town Classic.  But he doesn’t figure to be anywhere near the favorite, not with five-time Grade One winner Game on Dude in the field.

The field’s not quite as deep as in years past but nevertheless features three graded winners.  In addition to Game On Dude and multiple graded winner Caixa Eletronica, Ron the Greek, a three-time Grade One victor, will race.  His late-running style may challenge rider Jose Lezcano; at Charles Town, it’s easy to wait too long and leave closers with too much to do in too short a time.

Post time for the Classic is 10:30 p.m., with the 13-race card — featuring five other stakes, including the $200,000 Sugar Maple for fillies and mares — beginning at 5:00 p.m.  Find entries here.
