Optimism reigns for the Fasig-Tipton 2 year-olds in training sale taking place today and tomorrow in Timonium.
After several years of disappointing numbers, Thoroughbred sales have begun to tick back up, and that’s put a lot of consignors in a good mood. Several with whom we spoke are expecting a productive and profitable two-day event.
In addition, the Timonium sale has a reputation among horsemen as a good place to find a horse at a manageable price. It’s not as fancy as some of the other sales, but there are runners to be found. As veteran sale participant Mike Pons put it, “Ever since Afleet Alex [who was purchased for $75,000 at this sale in 2004], this sale has turned into a monster… really a good one.”
Filmmaker Jeff Krulik took his camera and his curiosity to Timonium last Thursday, the second (and final) day of breezes in preparation for the Fasig-Tipton 2 year-olds in training sale taking place today and tomorrow. This will be the first in a series of videos as he visits the backside, chats with people from the buy- and sell-sides of the equation, and explores the sale.
