Gabby says….

“In the fourth, a $25,000 maiden claimer, #4 Captainofindustry is the one to beat on the drop from better company, and I’m going to single him here.  The horse that beat him in his last, Fleet Gold Digger, ran huge in his next race and won an allowance at long odds, and the third place horse came back to win at this level… #2 Miners Quest could show up here, but the rail has been freakishly dead the last few days, so I’m going to toss him…

“In race 5, a $15,000 claimer for horses that have never won two, I’m going three deep.  I think that #3 Deb’s Trip is probably going to be the speed here, and it’s first off the claim for Juan Vazquez — a condition where he does really well.  Plus, he’s moving the horse up in class, another good sign… #7 Cowasee Girl is another making her first start after being claimed, in this case by King Leatherbury.  She’ll have to step it up here, but King likes her enough to move her up the ladder… #8 Funny Lady should be tough on the drop if she’s right…

“I’m going five deep in race six, which is a starter allowance for horses that have never won three..  I think #1 Mendassity is probably better on turf, but her dirt races are probably good enough to put her in the mix here… #3 Ek Haseena is my top pick in this race.  I think this is a perfect spot for her, and she’s a half-step better than these classwise… I’m not a huge fan of #4 Sunlit City in this spot, and I don’t think 2-1 is a square price on her, but she’s good enough that she’s scary here, so I’ll keep her on the ticket… I’m not sure if #5 Persnickety is better on turf or on dirt; she seems to run pretty well on everything.  The one concern here is the switch from turf to dirt; the turf course is really hard and solid right now, and the dirt track is deep, so that’s a big change… Todd Beattie is winning left and right, and even though it’s a big step, I think his horse, #7 Mission Song, is dangerous off an easy win.”

Horses to Watch

“I think #3 Grain, in the eighth, could run well here — don’t know if he’ll win, but he could surprise some people and hit the board at 12-1.  And in the same race, I’m giving #6 Poppa Portmore one more chance at 15-1.”

Good luck!
