Topped by multiple stakes winner Mystic Love, the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December mixed sale posted across-the-board increases in gross, average, and median for the one-day auction held Dec. 9 in Timonium, Md.
The sale company reported 133 horses sold for $1,516,700, up from the $1,150,200 total a year ago for 140 head, and an average price of $11,404, which represented a 38.8% increase over the 2012 average of $8,216. Median price rose 25% from $3,000 to $4,000.
The sale-topper, a 3-year-old daughter of Not For Love consigned by Bill Reightler, agent, was also purchased by Reightler, as agent for Greenmount Farm, for $100,000. Trained by Frances Campitelli for John and Rosalee C. Davison and Kenneth Greif, Mystic Love has won three of 10 starts and earned $196,310.
Winner of the Selima Stakes and Dania Beach Stakes as a 2-year-old, Mystic Love finished third in the Geisha Stakes Nov. 9. She was sold as a racing or broodmare prospect.
Produced from the winning Dixie Union mare Memories of Mystic, Mystic Love descends from the female family of champion Go For Wand and grade II winner and sire Dance Spell.
Second-highest price of $92,000 was paid by Highclere Inc. for a weanling colt by Kitten’s Joy produced from the winning E Dubai mare Right On It. A New York-bred foaled on Jan. 9 of this year, the colt was consigned by McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds.
The colt’s third dam is grade I winner Weber City Miss, the dam of multiple grade I winner and sire Slew City Slew, stakes winner Dream Touch, and stakes winner and stakes producer City Dance.
