From a Maryland Jockey Club release
The four races scheduled to be run on the grass this afternoon at Pimlico Race Course were taken off the turf after Wednesday’s deluge brought 5.82 inches of rain to the central Maryland track, according to turf superintendent Robbie Mitten. The main track was fast for all nine races Thursday.
“Based on the acreage of the infield and the turf, 6.2 million gallons of water was dumped on us,” Mitten said.
Trevor McCarthy rode two winners on the card, guiding Proud to Be Wild ($3.80-race 6) and Avarice ($3.60-race 8) to popular scores. The 19-year-old has 10 multiple win-days in the first 16 days of the spring meet. He leads the jockey standings with 26 victories, 13 more than Victor Carrasco.
