The Virginia Racing Commission has canceled the meeting it had slated for Thursday, June 19 and rescheduled it for Monday, June 23 at 10:00 a.m.
According to the notice of the rescheduled meeting, “This Special Meeting, regarding 2014 Thoroughbred Race weeks and days, will be held in the Horsemen’s Building at Colonial Downs.” (Bold face theirs.)
The rescheduling of the meeting continues a familiar pattern in an impasse which has dragged on for months, already caused Colonial to miss its anticipated Belmont day opening, and threatens the meet altogether.

How inept can you be when you cannot even schedule a meeting date without changing it over and over again? And we wonder why this dispute has not been settled? Two children on a playground could resolve their differences quicker!
Totally agree “A Disrespected Fan!
I believe the general readership here and the parties involved could have been sequestered in a high school gymnasium with coffee and sandwiches and resolved these issues in 48 hours. It goes to show that when you have another source of income there is never a rush and it’s apparent that no one in Virginia in dependent on thoroughbred racing to eat.
WTOP Radio in Washington is now reporting that the Virginia Racing Commission is willing to ‘Scrub the 2014 racing season in Virginia.’ According to the report the commission has adopted a resolution saying it would rescind its previous order calling for 25 days of racing this year if Colonial Downs and the horsemen can reach an agreement about the 2015 season. The report said the commission wants a contract between the two groups for the 2015 season signed by July 1st.
None of this makes any sense to me, but then again this entire dispute has made no sense to me. I have been thinking all along that there were some issues with Colonial and the Horsemen, and now I am beginning to believe the Racing Commission is in need of an overhaul.
