Heritage Stallions has announced the addition of graded stakes performer Tritap to its stallion roster in Chesapeake City, Md., for 2015. The first son of leading sire Tapit to stand in the Mid-Atlantic region, 5-year-old Tritap is currently in the process of being syndicated by Heritage.
An outstanding individual, Tritap was the highest priced sales yearling by Tapit in 2010, selling for $450,000 to Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC, who also raced his Grade 1-winning sire. He competed in the best of company, winning from seven furlongs at Saratoga to a mile and three-sixteenths at Churchill Downs, and set the existing track record in the latter. He just missed when second by a head in the 2013 Grade 2 San Fernando Stakes to Fed Biz while earning an Equibase speed figure of 115.
Young stallion Tapit is currently the premier sire in North America with progeny earnings for 2014 approaching $10 million. He has sired 15 Grade 1 winners, among them this year’s Belmont Stakes winner Tonalist, leading 3-year-old filly Untapable, and Florida Derby winner Constitution. And his sons are eagerly being sought after as sires. Trappe Shot, who stands at Claiborne Farm, was represented in the sales ring by first crop weanlings averaging $71,000 in 2013. In his first year at stud in 2013, Tapizar covered 142 mares while standing at Gainesway in Lexington, Ky., alongside his sire.
Tritap descends from the female family of multiple stakes winner Talc Shaker, an 11-time winner who finished in the money 26 times in 41 starts (19 times in stakes). His stakes-winning dam, Victory Road (by Seattle Slew’s son Ikari), is represented by five foals of racing age, five starters and four winners, all six-figure earners by Tapit. She has also produced fillies Touching Beauty, a graded stakes winner of $183,166, and Noisy Feet, a stakes winner of $205,854, as well as allowance-winning colt Tapaway.
Plans are underway to fully syndicate Tritap, with a number of shares having been spoken for prior to his purchase. His breeder, Copper Penny Stables, intends to support him with multiple mares, and Winchell Thoroughbreds LLC has retained several breeding rights. Local breeders have already committed several outstanding mares to Tritap’s first book. The exciting Maryland Breeding and Racing Incentive Program is a big factor in proceeding with the Tritap Syndication. As of 2015, breeders and owners of Maryland-sired Maryland-bred racehorses are eligible for an additional 70 percent of funds based on purses earned through third place while racing in Maryland (breeder 40 percent bonus, owner 30 percent purse enhancement).

Heritage Stallions also stands six other stallions, among them the speedy Street Magician and Kentucky Derby winner Giacomo.
