Works, entries, and results for the Midlantic-breds nominated to the Triple Crown. The latest:
[su_list icon=”icon: clipboard”]- Maryland-bred Combat Diver, who most recently had been second in the Miracle Wood at Laurel Park, gave graded company a try in Saturday’s Grade 3 Gotham at Aqueduct. Sent off as the race’s second longest shot, at 26-1, Combat Diver dawdled in last place in the early part of the 1 1/16 mile race, moved closer to the leaders rounding the far turn, had to wait a moment, and then had no response. With Sheldon Russell up, he finished ninth of 10 and was beaten by 16 lengths. Favored El Kabeir took the victory and the 50 Kentucky Derby points that go along with it.
- West Virginia-bred Kiss the Road had an inauspicious debut. Sent off 82-1 in maiden special weight company at Gulfstream Park, broke slowly and was never much involved while well wide on the turn. He finished ninth of 11 in the 5 1/2 furlong event.
- Several runners were on the weekend work tab: Refer (three furlongs in 37 3/5), Black Lab (5 furlongs in 1:01 3/5), Milhaud (5 furlongs in 1:01 1/5), and Saham (4 furlongs in 49 seconds).
