From a Delaware Park release
Dorsey Brown and Richard Palmer’s Luna Time may have punched her ticket for the Grade I Delaware Handicap on July 18 by posting a upset victory in the $100,000 Grade III Obeah Stakes at Delaware Park today.
With jockey Forest Boyce aboard, the 4-year-old daughter of Malibu Moon notched a 3–length score and covered the mile and an eighth in 1:49.58. The Maryland-bred trained by H. Graham Motion returned $32.80. The 5-to-2 favorite in the field of eleven, Joint Return, with Kendrick Carmouche, finished second a neck in front of Montana Native, with Alex Cintron in third.
“I was loaded for bear today,” said winning jockey Forest Boyce. “She never ever really relaxed 100% but she kept getting stronger which gave me confidence. When I did ask her at 3/8ths pole, she really responded.”
The Obeah Stakes was the first career stake victory for Luna Time who raised her record to four wins from nine starts $195,000.
