Heads or tails? Monday’s seventh race at Saratoga features two horses from the Mid-Atlantic region. The Lucky Coin Stakes, a $100,000 5 1/2 furlong turf sprint has Saucy Don, a New Jersey-bred, and Sonny Inspired from Maryland. Let’s look at “heads” first.
Saucy Don, a son of Don Six-Saucy Broad, by Belong to me, will carry 119 lbs. This five-year-old horse will be ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr. and is in the care of Terri Pompay. Owner/Breeder Petricia Genezario has watched this horse win over $300,000 with a record of 24-7-3-6. Saucy Don is coming off two victories in Monmouth in the Dan Horn and John J Reilly Stakes. He’s 15-1 on the morning line.
On the “tails” side, Sonny Inspired, a four-year-old gelding, also carrying 119 lbs, is by Artie Schiller-Argentesque, by Silver Deputy. Owned by Matthew Dorman and bred by Mr. and Mrs. Charles McGinnes, Sonny Inspired is in the capable hands of trainer Phil Schoenthal and jockey Jevian Toledo. Sonny Inspired has earned over $200,000 in his career and was last seen running in the Grade III Tom Fool Stakes at Aqueduct. Despite a 30-1 morning line, trainer Schoenthal is optimistic:
Sonny inspired is as live a 30/1 ml shot as you will ever find @TheNYRA in the stake Monday. Last breeze was sensational, break dud him good
