Saratoga’s August 9 stakes race is the $100,000 Alydar Stakes, named after the famous Triple Crown bridesmaid to Affirmed. Alydar is quite possibly the most famous non-winner of those stakes races. Alydar won both the Grade 1 Travers and the then-Grade 2 Whitney at the Spa in 1978, and he had an incredibly successful career as a stallion, much more successful than his rival Affirmed.
Our mid-Atlantic entry into this stakes is a Virginia-bred four-year-old colt named Noble Moon. He is trained by Leah Gyarmati and ridden by Kendrick Carmouche. Bred in Virginia by the Edward P. Evans Estate, Noble Moon is owned by Treadway Racing Stable. He has earned over $350,000 in his career and won last year’s Grade II Jerome Stakes. Noble Moon is a son of Malibu Moon out of the winning Kingmambo mare Mambo Bell. He has morning line odds of 20/1.
