Delaware horsemen to host “Family Fun Day”
Staff report
Nine races — and plenty of family fun.
That’s what Delaware Park will host on Saturday when, in addition to the track’s nine-race card, the Delaware Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association will sponsor Family Fun Day at Delaware Park.
The family fun begins at 12:30 p.m. on June in The Grove, Delaware’s famed picnic area. Family Fun Day continues to 3:30 p.m. Live racing, meanwhile, kicks off at 1:15 p.m.
And if you can’t make it to the track Saturday, don’t despair. The DTHA will host a second Family Fun Day on August 13!
Wow…2 family days the entire season at what used to be a family track that was able to get young people into a racing atmosphere for the future. They even are charging the kids for some of the rides…how lame can you get. Then again, the track that started Sunday racing hasn’t had it for years. Just one more reason there’s no future for horse racing. Delaware followed WV with slots and just doing enough to keep racing going as per the law.
Looks like WV will take the lead again if this Senate prez becomes guv and wipes out racing subsidies. If that happens, expect Delaware to follow…you won’t see these track owners complaining to end racing. Then only time for MD and PA to follow.
I guess why should Delaware have family days to create new fans when they probably expect no racing in the future anyway.
