Brandy’s Girl cruises in Crank It Up
From a Monmouth Park release
Eddie Broome’s Brandy’s Girl sat just off the early speed before moving on the front runners around the far turn and drawing clear to an easy 2 ½ length score in the $60,000 Crank It Up Stakes at Monmouth Park on Saturday, giving jockey Paco Lopez his fourth winner on the card.
Dispatched the odds-on choice in the field of 10 3-year-old fillies, Brandy’s Girl covered the about 5 ½ furlongs over firm turf in 1:03.14 and paid $3.20, $2.40 and $2.20. Tizanillusion completed the $20.20 exacta and returned $8.40 and $4.80. It was another half-length back to World Peace, who paid $3.60 to show.
“Ever since she clipped heels down at Gulfstream (Feb. 20, 2016) she’s been so aggressive,” said winning owner/breeder/trainer Broome, “but a little uneasy running up along horses. Today, Paco (jockey Lopez) was able to get her to relax outside of runners and when he asked she responded. He thinks she’ll go longer, so we may try her at a distance down the road. We’ll see how she comes back and make our plan from there.”
A daughter of Posse from the West Acre mare Don’t Stop Dreamin, Brandy’s Girl is now four for seven lifetime, good for earnings of $149,690. She is a full sister to stakes winner Posse Dreamin.
