The Maryland Racing Commission today signed off on a Stronach Group proposal to acquire Rosecroft Raceway in Fort Washington, MD. Rosecroft, a harness track, is currently owned by Penn National Gaming, Inc.
The Stronach Group, which owns the Maryland Jockey Club, issued the following statement:
“We are looking forward to working at Rosecroft Raceway and growing the business. Not only do we see this as an opportunity to expand the Maryland Jockey Club brand to a new market and make it easier for people to watch and wager on our Thoroughbred races, but we’re particularly interested in growing Standardbred racing, which has a long and storied history in Maryland.
“We will begin to upgrade the Rosecroft facility when the sale is finalized in the coming weeks. We appreciate the work of the Maryland Racing Commission.”
