Blog: Four straight for Pool Winner

Here’s a story that’s growing familiar in Maryland: Pool Winner went right to the front in a turf sprint and never looked back en route to posting a half-length victory at Laurel Park.
That was the story today, as Pool Winner, trained by Alan Goldberg for Colts Neck Stables LLC, notched his fourth consecutive victory, disposing of the talented Triple Burner before holding off the late run of Rockinn on Bye to win a $55,000 allowance test.
Pool Winner paid $3.40 to win as the 7-10 favorite and topped a $17.80 exacta.
The son of Broken Vow, ridden by Jevian Toledo, had to survive an objection by the rider of Rockinn on Bye, Taylor Hole. That objection stemmed from the first moments of the race, when Pool Winner stumbled outward leaving the gate, bumping Rockinn on Bye. Once Toledo got his mount righted, they quickly moved to command on the inside. Meanwhile, Rockinn on Bye dropped to the rear of the field, dropping four lengths behind any other runner.
Compounding the situation, Trevor McCarthy, aboard Bold Thunder, who finished fourth, filed an objection against Rockinn on Bye for interference in the stretch. Ultimately, both objections were overruled.
Pool Winner now has six wins from 15 starts with earnings of nearly $210,000.
