From the Spa: July 22 Midlantic-breds in Saratoga stakes
“From the Spa,” written by our on-site correspondent Joe Aiello, III, returns to keep you up-to-date on horses bred in the mid-Atlantic racing in Saratoga stakes.
The Friday July 22nd, Opening Day feature is the Grade 3 Schuylerville Stakes for two-year-old fillies. Schuylerville is a town east of Saratoga which played a key role in the American Revolutionary War. After the battle of Saratoga, the British retreated to this hamlet, and surrendered to American forces.
Friday will see if the rest of the field surrenders to Maryland-bred Inspired Flight. Inspired Flight is a chestnut filly by Orientate out of I Love to Fly, by Not For Love. She will be guided by the old Maryland hand of Edgar Prado and is conditioned by Phil Schoenthal. Bred by Sycamore Hall Thoroughbreds, LLC, the ownership group of Matthew Dorman and Phil Schoenthal is dropping this 15-1 morning line filly into the first stakes race of the Saratoga 2016 meet. The undefeated filly won its first maiden race, and has career earnings of $29,640.
