Preakness 142 logo unveiled
From a Maryland Jockey Club release
The Maryland Jockey Club today unveiled the official logo for the 142nd running of the Preakness Stakes (G1), to be run Saturday, May 20 at historic Pimlico Race Course.
The Leffler Agency designed the official logo for the 18th consecutive year.
“As racing in the state of Maryland is on the rise, the Preakness as an event is also gaining more prominence. This year’s modern design was inspired by the industry’s momentum and therefore conveys a sense of forward motion while appealing to a younger audience,” said Heather Connellee, CEO of Leffler Agency.
The Preakness, the Middle Jewel of the Triple Crown, is a classic American institution. First contested in 1873, it is one of thoroughbred horse racing’s most valued Grade 1 stakes races and one of the largest single-day sporting events in the United States.
A record crowd of 135,256 people watched Exaggerator win the 2016 Preakness while wagering a record $94.127 million. The 1 3/16-mile event has played host to racing icons Secretariat, American Pharoah, Affirmed, Seattle Slew, Northern Dancer, War Admiral and Citation.
The Preakness also plays host to InfieldFest, one of the world’s most eclectic music festivals.
