From a Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races release
After releasing its calendar for the first five months of 2017 in November, Hollywood Casino at Charles Town Races has now set its full live racing schedule for next year following approval by the West Virginia Racing Commission at its meeting Tuesday.
The 166-day calendar, down from 179 that were scheduled for 2016, calls for live racing on Wednesday through Saturday between January 11 and May 20. The track then switches to a Thursday-to-Saturday schedule from June 1 through December 23. Post time for the first race on Charles Town’s standard cards will be 7:00 P.M. EST. The two exceptions will be a 12:45 P.M. start time for Charles Town’s April 22 Charles Town Classic program and 5:00 P.M. on Race for the Ribbon day on September 23.
Charles Town’s 2017 stakes schedule, which was made official in November, is again headlined by the track’s marquee race and biggest day of its meet, the $1,250,000 Charles Town Classic (G2), scheduled for April 22. The Classic is one of 23 stakes currently scheduled at Charles Town for the coming year, not including the finalized lineup for West Virginia Breeders’ Classics XXXI which is slated for release in the coming months.
The track’s stakes schedule commences with the April 22 card, which includes the Classic and seven supporting stakes. Other major stakes days including September 23, which is highlighted by the Grade 3 Charles Town Oaks, supported by six other stakes; and October 14, when the West Virginia Breeders Classics will take place.
