Trainer Gary Capuano will headline the Saturday, March 18 edition of Off to the Races on The Racing Biz Radio Network.
The one-hour program airs at 10:00 a.m. each Saturday on Richmond’s ESPN 950 AM. Additional stations will be announced as they come online.
The show will focus on Thoroughbred racing and breeding around the mid-Atlantic region and across the country.
Capuano trainee O Dionysus is favored in Saturday’s $100,000 Private Terms Stakes at Laurel Park. A victory there could mark a step towards the May 20, Grade 1 Preakness Stakes, a race in which his runners have competed on more than one occasion. Notably, his Captain Bodgit ran third — beaten just a head — by Silver Charm in the 1997 Preakness.
Also on the program will be Darrell Wood of the Virginia Equine Alliance. Wood has been closely involved in the development of the state’s off-track betting network, which now has two outlets in the Richmond area.
As always, Derby Bill Watson will provide his handicapping acumen, focusing on Saturday’s Grade 2 Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn Park.
Guests in prior weeks have included trainers Cal Lynch (El Areeb) and Graham Motion (Irish War Cry), as well as Maryland Jockey Club president Sal Sinatra, jockey Trevor McCarthy, and others.
“We’re always on the lookout for the most interesting voices and issues in mid-Atlantic racing and breeding,” said Frank Vespe, owner-publisher of The Racing Biz and host of the show. “We look forward to another week of sharing those voices with our listeners in Richmond and, via streaming, around the region and across the country.”
