Heritage Stallions partners to split
From a release
Heritage Stallions, Inc., the breeding operation of Louis Merryman and Drs. Tom and Brooke Bowman, will split into its constituent parts starting in the 2018 season.
Louis Merryman has announced Anchor & Hope Farm will stand stallions starting in the 2018 season in Port Deposit, Maryland. Imagining and Bourbon Courage will move to Anchor & Hope starting in 2018. A final roster will be announced later in the year.
The Bowmans will continue their operation in Chesapeake City, MD, standing Street Magician and Despite The Odds.
The breeding industry in Maryland was recently restructured to include a boost in breeders’ awards. Since the inception of the new program, there has been a sharp increase in number of mares bred and resulting live foals. Both Merryman’s Anchor & Hope and the Bowmans’ Roland Farm experienced an uptick in boarding and foaling. All partners agreed being able to focus their full attentions at their respective farms would contribute to the momentum Maryland is currently experiencing.
“We’ve seen a boom to the Maryland industry that is exciting, and the growth is happening at a steady rate,” Merryman observed. “After countless discussions it was decided separating into two entities would best serve our clients. There was no viable option for expansion. All of our resources are now devoted to Anchor & Hope as a full service operation. We look forward to continuing to work with the Bowmans to promote Maryland breeding and racing.”
“We outgrew the current Heritage property quicker than any of us could have predicted,” added Dr. Tom Bowman. “We agreed this would ultimately provide the best decision for our clients and our industry.”
Anchor & Hope farm is currently undergoing renovations to be able to offer foaling, layups and sales preparation services in addition to standing stallions.
