Maryland Million scheduled for October 20
From a Maryland Million release
The 33rd edition of Jim McKay Maryland Million Day will take place on Saturday, October 20 at Laurel Park. Dates of other Maryland Million festivities, including the Maryland Million Gala (Maryland Club – Oct .19) and Maryland Million Golf Tournament (Manor Country Club – Oct. 9) have also been confirmed.
Over 22,000 people were in attendance to enjoy the 2017 renewal of Maryland’s Day at the Races, which featured the traditional races for eligible Maryland-sired horses. Two-year-olds by 2017 freshman sires Buffum and Freedom Child gave a glimpse into the exciting future of the Maryland breeding industry when winning the Maryland Million Nursery (Buffum’s son Clever Mind) and Maryland Million Lassie (Freedom Child’s daughter Limited View). Limited View went on to be named Maryland-bred champion 2-year-old filly of 2017.
In addition to a great day of racing, fans participated in the inaugural Maryland Million Day Hat Contest and families enjoyed a day full of activities for children of all ages in the Kid’s Korral. The vibrant Maryland Million Tent Village was filled with legislators, industry participants, and guests that enjoyed the best view in the house from their Club Tent tables.
“We look forward to another great day of racing and fun activities for fans of all ages on October 20,” says Cricket Goodall, executive director of Maryland Million Ltd. “Jim McKay Maryland Million Day celebrates all that is good about the horse breeding and racing industry in Maryland.”
Jim McKay Maryland Million Day features races for Maryland-sired horses with purses and awards totaling over $1 million. A diverse crowd of fans, industry professionals, and elected officials flock to Laurel Park each autumn to enjoy this competitive day of racing and a variety of other on-and-off-track activities.
