Delaware Park 2018 horses to watch: August 20
by Frank Vespe
Delaware Park has an eight-race card on tap for Monday, August 20, with the last race of the day for Arabians. Post time for the card is 1:15 p.m. Some horses to watch:
Race 4 – Maiden special weight
- Three-year-olds and up will go six furlongs on the main track.
- Trainer Steve Asmussen doesn’t run many at Delaware Park — just two so far this meet — but when a Hall of Famer with a 20 percent strike rate this year shows up, you need to pay attention. In this race, he’ll send out #2 Hot Sriracha (9-5), a three-year-old colt by Flatter out of the unraced Saint Liam mare Princess Liam. This spicy guy has raced twice, both in $75,000 maiden special weight events at Belmont Park, finishing fifth both times. The runner-up from his most recent test, July 6, returned to graduate next out. Hot Sriracha is showing three works since his last race and will have Feargal Lynch in the irons here.
- #3 Munny Time (7-2) is set to make the first start of his career in this event. The sophomore Munnings gelding is a Pennsylvania-bred who sold for $50,000 as a yearling at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearling Sale in 2016. He’s been working fast for trainer Mark Reid, including a sharp five-eighths move in 59 4/5 seconds at Pimlico August 8, which suggests he’s probably ready here. Reid will leg up Alex Cintron to ride.
- Selections: 3-2-1-4
