Monmouth Park to bolster purses
Monmouth Park will increase purses by five percent for all races starting on TVG.Com Haskell Invitational day on Saturday, July 20, the track announced today.
The increase will be added to purses already averaging nearly $500,000 per day as well as an expanded stakes schedule offering $7.1 million overall.
“Our numbers have been strong despite losing the equivalent of a full card of racing due to weather,” said Dennis Drazin, Chairman and CEO of Darby Development LLC, operators of Monmouth Park. “This is the first increase in purses during the meet that Monmouth Park has offered in quite some time. It’s another indication that everyone involved – owners, trainers and our patrons – has responded positively to the $10 million purse subsidy provided by the state.
“We anticipate our numbers to continue to be strong going forward.”
The $1 million, Grade 1 Haskell Invitational, Monmouth Park’s signature race, headlines a card that includes the Grade 3 Monmouth Cup, the Grade 3 Molly Pitcher Stakes, the Grade 3 WinStar Matchmaker Stakes, the Grade 3 Oceanport Stakes and the Wolf Hill Stakes.
The Monmouth Park meet runs through Oct. 27.
