Delaware Park has an eight-race card lined up today. Some horses to watch:
Race 5 – Maiden claiming
- Maidens three-years-old and up will go 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf at the $16,000 claiming level.
- Last time he saw the turf, #8 Dig In (8-1) ran evenly at a higher level at Tampa Bay Downs. That was back in April, when he finished sixth, though beaten four lengths and change. He’s been on the dirt three times since, with varying degrees of success, but though his last doesn’t look like much — fourth, beaten 10 lengths — he was actually in a photo for second, behind a runaway winner. Both the winner and the runner-up won their follow-ups, suggesting that was a pretty good heat, and this one finds his lowest level yet while switching back to a surface on which he hasn’t run badly. Trainer Gerald Bennett will leg up Alex Cintron, and the two of them have combined to win three of five starts together in the last two months.
- Selections: 8-4-3-6
Race 7 – Claiming
- Fillies and mares three-years-old and up that have never won two races will go 1 1/16 miles on the turf in a $16,000 claiming race.
- Two weeks back, in her first start of 2019, #6 Single Mission (3-1) didn’t run badly, rallying a little bit to grab third. More notable was that trainer Jamie Ness opted to waive the claiming tag in that start, which suggests that the connections like her a little bit — enough, at least, to think she’ll knock down this condition. Trevor McCarthy, currently leading the colony in turf wins, has the mount on a runner who can move forward today.
- Selections: 6-8-7
