Delaware Park has an eight-race card lined up today. Some horses to watch:
Race 5 – Allowance
- Fillies and mares three years old and up will go 5 furlongs on the turf in a first-level allowance.
- It’ll be first time on the turf for #2 Live Large (8-1), who’s made just two starts in her apparently star-crossed career. She debuted with a win in maiden special weight company at Laurel Park in late 2017, prevailing by a nose. She didn’t reappear for a couple of months, when she was a distant third in allowance company at Tampa Bay Downs — though the first two did return to win their next starts. But she hasn’t been seen in the afternoon since and today will try the turf for the first time. She’s showing four works since late June towards this spot, and trainer Clyde Martin will leg up Jose Betancourt. If she takes to the turf, she can have a say in the outcome here.
- Selections: 2-1-6-3
Race 6 – Maiden claiming
- Two-year-old maiden fillies will go 5 furlongs on the main track at the $25,000 claiming level.
- You’ll get two for the price of… well, two with trainer Anthony Pecoraro sending out an uncoupled pair of runners, both of whom are 5-2 on the morning line. #6 Shatter Me ran willingly enough in her debut after being reluctant to load and will receive Lasix today for the first time. Brain Pedroza retains the mount, and if this one can keep her cool, she can move forward today. And #7 Hufflepuff would gladden the hearts of Harry Potter fans everywhere if she can make her debut a winning one. The daughter of Stay Thirsty is showing four moderate works in preparation and will get Jose A. Garcia up. Pecoraro is one of just two trainers on the grounds to have won twice with first-time starters at the meet (he’s 2-for-7), and he has three wins by two-year-olds at the meet; no other trainer has more than one.
- Selections: 7-1a-6-3
