Delaware Park 2019 horses to watch: July 22

Delaware Park has an eight-race card lined up today, and the finale is for Arabians. Some horses to watch:
Race 3 – Maiden claiming
- Maidens three-years-old and up will go 6 furlongs on the main track at the $25,000 claiming level.
- Man, this has to be painful. #3 McClure (6-1) is a homebred for Tim Hamlin, Nancy Hamlin, and Tiffany Veloudis; he’s a four-year-old gelding by Into Mischief (who stands for $150,000) and out of the Alphabet Soup mare Apache Dancer, whose offspring include the stakes winner Central City, who was second in the 2010 Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint. In other words, this guy was bred to be something. But he didn’t make the races until February of his three-year-old season (2018), ran poorly in one start, and hasn’t been seen since. He finally shows up here, now in for $25,000, and for a new trainer in Cesar Nambo. He’s showing three recorded works. two of which weren’t bad, and he gets Lasix for the first time. We’ll take a bit of a wait-and-see approach on this one, but we are curious to see how he performs.
- Selections: 4-5-3-2
Race 7 – Allowance
- Fillies and mares three-years-old and up will go six furlongs on the main track in a first-level allowance.
- Three-year-old #2 Crescentcitypretty (7-2) has made good use of the Louisiana-bred program in her home state, winning a maiden race and a stake and finishing third in two other stakes while racking up nearly $100,000 in earnings in just five starts. She’s raced just once since March, finishing second in an allowance at Delaware, and while she was well-beaten that day, she was also well clear of the rest. She’ll probably prefer today’s six furlongs to the 5 1/2 she saw last time, and hot-riding Alex Cintron will ride for the hard-hitting Jose Camejo barn.
- Selections: 2-4-3-1
