Delaware Park has an eight-race card on tap for Wednesday, August 14. Some horses to watch:

Race 6 – Allowance/optional claiming

  • Three-year-olds and up will go 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track in a second-level allowance with an optional claiming tag of $40,000.
  • Here’s a horse who enjoys Delaware Park. #7 Winplaceorshowono (6-1) has run seven times over the strip and finished in the money in all seven. Among his four local wins are back-to-back scores in the New Castle Stakes on Owners’ Day, which last year he accomplished after having had just a single start in the prior nine months. It looks like he’s on a similar schedule this year, as the five-year-old son of Dance With Ravens hasn’t started since last year’s New Castle on September 29. Trained by Dale Capuano (who’s 16% off layoffs of greater than 90 days), there’s no question Winplaceorshowono can compete with these on best, and he’s entering this one with some solid works under his belt. But this is no easy spot for him to return, and you have to imagine the goal his connections have in mind isn’t this spot but a threepeat in the New Castle.
  • Selections: 3-4-7-6

Race 8 – Allowance

  • Fillies and mares three-years-old and up will go one mile on the main track in a first-level allowance.
  • The lightly raced #1 Not Sure (2-1) is a horse who probably should like the added ground she’ll see today. She’s by Lonhro out of an A. P. Indy mare, so there’s definitely some distance in her bloodlines. She’s never been beyond six furlongs in her five-race career, though, so two turns will be a new ballgame for her. She broke her maiden in special weight company at Laurel at second asking, and only one of her three allowance tries has come on dirt; in that one, she was compromised by a bad start in a race that produced a next-out winner. Trainer Jorge Duarte takes the blinkers off today and will leg up Alex Cintron.
  • Selections: 1-5-4-7
