Delaware Park has an eight-race card on tap for Wednesday, August 21. Some horses to watch:

Race 3 – Allowance

  • Fillies and mares three and up will go five furlongs on the turf.
  • Let’s give a second chance to #3 Live Large (6-1) after a rough outing last time out. This Rattlesnake Bridge filly was an $85,000 auction purchase for Augustin Stable. She was originally in the care of Graham Motion, for whom she won first time out at Laurel Park, and she followed that up with a decent effort to be third in a Tampa allowance the first two finishers of which returned to win next out (including the stakes-placed Di Maria). But she was off from that race — February 4, 2018 — until a race at Delaware on July 18 of this year. That’s a long time away, and she ran evenly while wide on a sloppy, sealed surface she may not have relished. She shifts to the turf today and is a sibling to one turf winner. Now trained by Clyde Martin, she certainly has the right to improve in her second start after a 17-month break. Jose Betancourt will ride.
  • Selections: 3-4-7-1

Race 6 – Allowance/optional claiming

  • Three-year-olds and up will go one mile on the main track in a second-level allowance with an optional claiming tag of $25,000.
  • Last time out, #3 Aspect (3-1) was hung out wide on both turns going a mile at Delaware and had no answers in the lane. But the Tim Ritchey trainee is a certified Delaware lover — three wins from six starts here — and is a lightly raced sort (just eight starts to date) moving readily through his conditions. A better trip and continued improvement could make a big difference today. Carol Cedeno is up.
  • Selections: 3-2-7-1
