Delaware Park has an eight-race card lined up for Saturday, September 14. Some horses to watch:

Race 6 — Maiden claiming

  • Two-year-old maiden fillies will go six furlongs on the main track at the $15,000 claiming level.
  • When you breed a Broken Vow mare to a $75,000 stallion like Kitten’s Joy, you’ve got to be hoping for something more than a filly who’ll sell for $9,000 at auction as a yearling, but such is the case with first-time starter #5 Yougottabekitten (8-1). Bell Gable Stable picked this miss up for that price at last fall’s Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearling sale, and she’ll make her bow here for trainer Jamie Ness. She has a pretty modest work tab behind her, but it seems notable that Ness had two entered and scratched the other. He’ll leg up Brian Pedroza here, and that duo is has won six of their last 18.
  • Selections: 5-11-4-1

Race 8 — Claiming

  • Three-year-olds and up that have never won two races will go 5 1/2 furlongs on the main track.
  • If his career debut is to be believed, #4 Caprivi Strip (3-1) should be an absolute handful in this lifetime claiming event. The son of Stormberg (editor’s note: Who?) made his debut a winning one for then-trainer Phil D’Amato at the $20,000 maiden level. His follow-up last month, at Colonial Downs, was not good, but that one was on the lawn. Switched back to the main track here and making his first start for trainer Claudio Gonzalez, he owns the right to get back to his better form. Angel Suarez will ride.
  • Selections: 4-5-2-8

Changes are coming for the Kittens Joy filly. She will be fine.
