From the Spa: July 25 Midlantic-breds in Saratoga stakes
by Joseph Aiello
“From the Spa” returns to keep you up-to-date on horses bred in the mid-Atlantic racing in Saratoga stakes
Saturday, July 25th features two graded stakes races at the Spa, the Grade II Ballston Spa and the Grade I Alfred G. Vanderbilt. Both have small fields, with the Ballston Spa carrying six entries including a main track only and our Midlantic bred of interest. Breaking from the four post if the stakes race is taken off of the turf, Another Broad will hold a heavy burden of 6/5 morning line odds for trainer Todd Pletcher, but this five year old mare should be the likely winner if she reaches the starting gate.
Another Broad was bred in Maryland by Fitzhugh LLC, and was sold to Farfellow Farm Ltd. for a price of $340,000. By Include – Dynamic Deputy, by Deputy Minister, this bay mare has been very consistent over her career, recently finishing third behind Midnight Bisou in the Grade II Fleur de Lis Stakes at Churchill Downs. Despite this consistency, Another Broad has run into recent troubles finding the winner’s circle, but in the unlikely scenario that she does get a crack in the off-the-turf Ballston Spa, it may be her best chance at picking up her first graded victory.
