It’s a solid card, with several allowance races and a couple of intriguing runners.on the docket.
PLEASE NOTE: TODAY’S PARX RACING CARD IS CANCELED.
HORSES TO WATCH
Race 7/Allowance/optional claiming
A couple of these have to have made their connections say, Ouch!
#1 Wartime Hero (6-1) is a son of Empire Maker out of the Include mare St. John’s River. She was a Grade 2 winner who placed in a number of other graded events, and this colt is just her second foal to race. He’s making his first start in the McMahon barn after being claimed for $50,000 — hence, ouch! — but we’re not so sure about that speed fig last time. You could have thrown a blanket over the top three, and they averaged a 12-point improvement over their last start. Maybe, but that pushes us in a “wait and see” direction.
Another ouch is that of #3 Ghost Game (6-1). A $325,000 son of Ghostzapper, he’s making his first start after being claimed for $40,000 (ouch!) by Tyler Servis. He didn’t run badly last time at Churchill when third in a race that’s produced two next-out winners, and he’ll get blinks on today. Servis has won with 7 of 17 starters at the meet.
RACE NUMBER | HORSES | COMMENTS |
Race 6 | 2, 5, 6, 8 | Though a couple of these have shorter odds, this looks to us like a pretty wide-open contest. Favored #2 Ark in the Dark (9-5) ran a good one two back to just miss at the level (and that race has produced two next-out winners). But he didn’t fire last time as the 6-5 selection, is a five-year-old still hunting first allowance win, and has lost this 11 times… #5 Bojingle (7-2) ran into the promising Skol Factor last time in first after six months away, can improve… |
Race 7 | 2, 3, 5 | In addition to Ghost Game (see above), another to give a look to is #5 Romanoff (5-1). The Claudio Gonzalez trainee has been running credibly vs. better and may appreciate an easier group to tackle. Gonzalez and rider Laprida have done good work together (35% strike rate)… |
Race 8 | 1, 3, 8 | Speedy Pecoraro trainee #8 Bourbon Street (9-5) deserves favoritism and projects as speed of the speed in here after two straight good tries… If he gets hooked early, one who may benefit is #3 Kelli’s Smile (7-2). Newly in the Farrrior barn, he’s run plenty of competitive races but is working on a 16-race losing streak, so make sure you get fair odds… |
Race 9 | 3, 4, 7 | The horse who perhaps offers a bit more value in this spot is #7 Nightlife (6-1). The Coletti trainee ran well two back when runner-up vs. similar in a race that’s produced two next-out winners , and while his last was nothing special, it was on the grass. He can contend with this group on the main track. |
WAGERING… | The track offers rolling Pick 3 wagers and rolling doubles, and P3s using all of our horses above starting in races 6 and 7 would cost $18 for a buck and $13.50 for a buck. Good luck! |
