How’d we do last Tuesday at Parx?

RACE NUMBERHORSESCOMMENTS
Race 31, 2, 4, 5The horse who ought to graduate in this maiden special is #1 Ellarella (5-2). The Cody Beattie trainee was a distant second on debut, and it was just a four-horse field. But the quality of the quartet has been vouched for in subsequent starts: winner Dontletsweetfoolya came back to win a first allowance in her next start with a 90 Beyer speed fig, and the fourth-place finisher also graduated next out. This one’s showing two bullet works in the interim… Improved try last time from #2 Cousin Basil (7-2), who, in her first start since February, was a pretty good second despite having been wide on both turns and slow to switch leads; she can improve today… I’m gonna leave #4 Solid Gold Dancer (9-2) in the mix but not with enthusiasm; she led throughout in modest fractions last time but couldn’t seal the deal in a race that was just about the same time as a state-bred maiden claimer earlier on the card… On the other hand, we’ll leave #5 Miss Moon Pie (5-1) in the mix despite a poor debut; she showed a bit of early foot that day, her breeding says the added ground shouldn’t hurt (and may help), and trainer John Servis wins 20% of the time with second-time starters in maiden special weight company…
Race 92, 6, 8Last time out, at Monmouth Park, #6 American Quality (9-2) laid waste to his maiden rivals, and you can believe we’ll be happy to take the morning line odds on this runner. The time of his maiden score was a touch faster than a first-level allowance that came later on the card… #2 Clever Sarah (5-2) is two-for-two on the lawn and figures, breaking from the inside, to be winging it on the lead here. Do note that it was getting pretty late on her in her last turf try – she just held on – and that none of eight to run back has won… We’re inclined to give one more crack to #8 Ashraq (8-1). A Shadwell homebred, his only turf try to date came going 1 1/16 miles over yielding ground this past December. Pixelate, that day’s winner, has continued to run well and on Sunday won the G2 Del Mar Derby. This one always shows good speed, and perhaps a short turf sprint will work for him…
WAGERING…We’ll be looking at win bets and exactas in these races.
