FASIG-TIPTON: 2020 YEARLING SALE BY THE NUMBERS
The annual Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Fall Yearling Sale takes place Monday and Tuesday in Timonium. As with, well, everything else, things are different. Among them: this year’s yearling sale takes place immediately after the rescheduled Preakness Stakes, won in thrilling fashion on Saturday by Swiss Skydiver.
We’ve crunched some of the numbers to give you a (statistical) sense of what’s happening in the sale. If you’re looking for a more narrative take:
MARYLAND STATE OF MIND
Prior to outs, there are more yearlings bred in Maryland in the sale than in any other state. Indeed, Maryland-breds account for more than 36% of the hips on offer, followed by New York, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky. The list:

SIRE POWER
As the Mid-Atlantic goes, so goes the yearling sale. Or something like that. Of the top 11 sires by progeny offered (prior to outs), all but one stand in the Mid-Atlantic. That one is the promising Laoban, who’s in New York.
The list also includes some who haven’t had runners yet — like Divining Rod and Holy Boss — as well as others with runners, including the veteran Maryland-based sire Great Notion.
