Race | 3-7-2-6 | Two-year-old maidens square off in this special weight contest going seven furlongs. Top choice #3 Excitable Lady (7-2) ran a decent race in her debut three weeks back, sticking with it in the lane to be a clear, if well-beaten, second, well ahead of the rest while not switching leads in the lane. Three rivals she finished ahead of that day are here… #7 B B’s Rocket (4-1), a first-timer from the Butch Reid barn, was an $85,000 auction purchase this past April and has been training well enough. She’s the first foal out of a Harlan’s Holiday mare who won once in her career, and Reid is 3-for-38 with two-year-olds making their debut in special weight company… Her debut was a mess, but let’s give #2 Systematic (5-1) another crack; She was in tight early, extremely rank for a long time, and then out of gas. We don’t know if she has any talent, but that race is a toss in terms of judging it; runner-up Laobanonaprayer returned to win a NY-bred stake this past Saturday… #6 Infatuating (9-2) ran on willingly enough in her debut for the show, though she was a long way behind Excitable Lady, who was second… |
Race 9 | 3-1-6-7 | The featured ninth is a third-level allowance going a mile on the main track. We’ll take a bit of a swing with #3 Admiral Abe (6-1). We don’t love this distance for him, but the value should be there. He enters in pretty good form with an easy win last out, and figures to be the controlling speed in here… Trainer Jorge Duarte has a coupled entry here, but with Pennington named to ride both, it’s likely he’ll scratch one. #1 Name Changer (8-5) ran poorly last out in the G1 Jockey Club Gold Cup, but the distance seems to have been an issue; prior to that, he was in good form and on best looks tough here. #1A Compound It is a speedy sort who’ll have to work out a trip in a race where making the lead seems unlikely… The lightly raced #6 Debbie’s Passion (7-2) has been on the rise, and while he didn’t make much impact last time against similar, he still has plenty of upside… #7 Tybalt (6-1) doesn’t win much but usually runs his race… |
