DELAWARE PARK UNVEILS 2021 STAKES SCHEDULE
Delaware Handicap Day has been scheduled for Saturday, July 10 and Delaware Oaks Day has been slated for Saturday, July 3 for the upcoming the 84th live racing season at Delaware Park.
During the week between, the track will also card two weekday stakes, both at 7 1/2 furlongs on the turf and both restricted to Delaware certified runners. The Peach Blossom, for fillies and mares, highlights the Wednesday, July 7 card, while the Sussex, for three-year-olds and up, is the Thursday, July 8 feature.
- Maryland Racing Commission OKs new TMJC as track operatorThe Maryland Racing Commission on Dec. 23 signed off on the new nonprofit Maryland Jockey Club to operate Laurel Park in the new year.
The Grade 3 Robert G. Dick Memorial, for fillies and mares going a mile-and-three-eighths on the grass, will be the supporting feature on the Delaware Handicap Day card, and the Grade 3 Kent Stakes, for 3-year-olds going a mile-and-an-eighth on the grass, will be the supporting feature on the Delaware Oaks Day card.
After being shortened to a mile-and-an-eighth last year due to COVID-19 pandemic, the Grade 2 Delaware Handicap will return to the traditional distance of a mile-and-a-quarter. The Grade 3 Delaware Oaks will remain at the distance of a mile-and-a-sixteenth. The 29th Owners Day, featuring four Delaware Certified Stakes, will be Saturday, September 25.
The 77-day meet will open on Wednesday, May 26 and conclude on Saturday, October 16. Live racing will be conducted Saturdays, Mondays, and Wednesdays. Thursdays will be added June 24 through September 30.First race daily post time is set for 1:15pm.
