PREAKNESS PROFILE: CROWDED TRADE

Crowded Trade won at first asking in late January and has been second and third in two stakes starts for top trainer Chad Brown — a resume that’s stunningly similar to that owned at the same time by Cloud Computing, who won the 2017 Preakness.

Cloud Computing won that year’s Middle Jewel with Javier Castellano up, one of two Preakness triumphs for the rider, who’ll do the honors on Crowded Trade.

4. CROWDED TRADE (10-1)

  • TRAINER: CHAD BROWN
  • JOCKEY: JAVIER CASTELLANO
  • LIFETIME RECORD: 3-1-1-1
  • MOST RECENT RACE: 3RD, GRADE II WOOD MEMORIAL

GQ SAYS

Lightly-raced son of More Than Ready traveled near the back of the pack in a Wood Memorial that could have been timed with a sundial. Though he rallied to earn the SHOW purse as the bettors’ second choice, the winner (Bourbonic; 13th in KY Derby), WHO came from dead last, and the runner-up (Dynamic One) made no impact in the KY Derby, finishing 18th. “Trade” won his racing debut just four and a half months ago, from off-the-pace catching a tiring leader in deep stretch, but in his two races that followed going 8 then 9 furlongs, he displayed a nice mid-stretch kick but has the appearance of a “hanger.” A best bet to have a bright future racing on the turf not the dirt. You heard it here first.
