RACE NUMBER | CONTENDERS | COMMENTS |
Race 8 | The Dr. Teresa Garofalo Memorial Stakes brings the return of the undefeated Chub Wagon (4-5), who’s won all eight of her starts to date. She’s showing a pair of fast works since her victory in the Dashing Beauty at Delaware Park July 10, and if she’s right today figures to be a handful in here… | |
Race 9 | 9-8-3-6 | In the grassy Mrs. Penny Stakes, we’ll give the nod to #9 Jakarta (7-2). She’s kept better company than these, last out finishing behind the very good Caravel in the G3 Caress, and in her lone two-turn try on the page, she was beaten a half-length for all of it in the G3 Honey Fox… #8 Wildcat Cartride (8-1) gets back to the turf for the first time since a good third in this race a year ago… Favored #3 Vault (5-2) is a G2 winner on the main track, tries turf for just the second time… |
Race 10 | 4-2-1-6 | The distance is the question here in the Storm Cat, but no question #4 Beren (9-2) has shown plenty of talent. When last seen against state-breds two back, the Weigelia colt won off by nine. A bit shorter might be better, but he still can be a factor and Pennington remains aboard… #2 Wait for It (3-1) has won two straight state-bred stakes and makes his second start after a three-month break… #1 I Am Redeemed (6-1) has won two of three in brief career, must show best against toughest group (by far) that he’s seen… |
Race 11 | 10-3-6-5 | Expecting trainer Lizzie Merryman to have #10 Flyingontheground (9-2) ready to run big here in the grassy Marshall Jenney. The seven-year-old mare rallied smartly last out to be second in the Sensible Lady at PIM, tackles boys in this spot… #3 Smooth B (7-2) was second in this spot a year ago, enters in good form… Speedy #6 Admiral Abe (3-1) was third in this spot last year but is winless in five turf tries… |
Race 12 | 2-4-6-7 | The talented #2 Golden Candy (7-2) always fires but occasionally makes himself trouble with gate issues. A clean break will be key; he ran on well in last against a couple hard hitters despite sluggish break. Never worse than third in six tries at the trip… #4 Fortheluvofbourbon (3-1) has won three of five since claim and looks to be rounding into form after three ’21 starts. Doesn’t need the lead but has the speed to get it… The improving #6 Prince of Rain (5-1) has crossed the wire first in four of seven starts. In the three he did not, the winner came back to repeat next out… #7 Dreams Untold (9-2) has ample talent but his form’s been in-and-out; he’s been the beaten favorite four times on the page. He’ll be a handful on best but has been away since March… |
