RACE NUMBER | CONTENDERS | COMMENTS |
Race 2 | 2-3-9-7 | Top choice #2 Borracho Concho (7-2) ran a big one to be second on debut, forwardly placed throughout in a race in which the trip-sitting Loose Ends eyed things from fourth before running on by to win. This one’s showing a bullet work in the meantime and has a big shot to graduate today… In that same race #3 Muttley (4-1) rallied belatedly while never a threat to be sixth. That was his first try with Lasix after stopping badly his prior outing; look for some improvement today… #9 Lucky Running Cat (8-1) makes his debut in this spot. The Kathleen Demasi trainee is a half to the stakes winner Amy Farah Fowler, who won at first asking… #7 Don Giuseppe (3-1) led a long way before settling for third last out; that was his first try with Lasix and blinkers… |
Race 10 | 5-1-3-4 | Top choice #5 Fortheluvofbourbon (2-1) got run down late last time against similar going seven-eighths. But today he’s shortening up to his best distance of six furlongs, gets top rider Kendrick Carmouche, and projects as controlling speed… Last time out — back in November — #1 Violent Turbulence (4-1) finished third at this level. The winner that day, Hopeful Treasure, returned to win the G3 Fall Highweight, and this one’s showing a couple of fast works in the interim… #3 Press My Bets (12-1) showed absolutely nothing last time out against similar and was never asked for his best. But trainer Scott Lake brings him right back at the same level, rider Edwin Rivera remains aboard, and you have to wonder if they’re seeing something in the mornings that no one saw last time out in the afternoon. His best efforts have been good enough to contend with these… #4 Dontmesawithme (5-1) wore down Fortheluvofbourbon to win at this level last out and certainly merits respect right back in the same spot… |
