RACE NUMBER | CONTENDERS | COMMENTS |
Race 10 | 9-3-2-1 | #9 My Friends Beer (8-1) got cooked on the front end last time out, which was something of a new thing for him: he didn’t typically show a ton of early speed, especially not at sprint distances. That might presage a step forward for him, or at least back towards his better form… #3 Koan (5-1) will try to get a better break and should be able to avoid the wide journey he encountered last time… His form can be a bit hit-and-miss, but his better efforts would put #2 The Angry Man (3-1) right there… Note that trainer Jamie Ness’s local go-to rider, Ruben Silvera, picks The Angry Man over the other Ness runner in here, #1 Zippy (4-1). The latter may be a bit tighter for his second off a 60-day break… |
Race 11 | 7-5-3-6 | The card is mostly notable for the return of G3 Monmouth Oaks winner #7 Leader of the Band (8-5). She hasn’t raced since finishing sixth in the G1 Cotillion Sept. 25. Her work tab looks fine, though it’s interesting to note that she’s been training in Florida rather than locally. You’ve got to assume this soft spot was too enticing for trainer John Servis to pass up, though it appears he has his eyes on Gulfstream for whatever comes next for this miss… #5 Lula’s Roadrunner (6-1) ran second against similar twice before throwing in a clunker last out after a wide journey and no pace to run at… #3 Aegean Sea (5-1) will likely be part of the early pace, which could include all three inside horses… If a strong pace does develop, that could benefit the late-running #6 Tomarie (12-1)… |
