One to watch: Excellorator
Maryland-bred Excellorator stamped himself as one to watch with a two-length victory in an allowance at Laurel Park April 7.
The four-year-old Orb colt made his return from a layoff that extended for just shy of a full year a winning one, moving through along the rail under apprentice Jean Alvelo to cover the one-turn mile in 1:40.13 over a sloppy, sealed main track.
- Maryland Racing Commission OKs new TMJC as track operatorThe Maryland Racing Commission on Dec. 23 signed off on the new nonprofit Maryland Jockey Club to operate Laurel Park in the new year.
Excellorator was stakes-placed twice as a three-year-old, finishing third in the Private Terms and then second in the Federico Tesio Stakes last April 24. In that contest, Excellorator was actually first past the post but was disqualified and placed second for bumping rival The Reds in the stretch.
Excellorator now has four wins from 10 career starts, good for earnings of $191,710.
Excellorator was bred in Maryland by CRK Stable LLC. McMahon claimed him for $62,500 on behalf of owner Philmor Racing Stable out of an allowance/optional claiming victory in February 2021. When Phyllis Soboczenski, owner of Philmor, passed away in June 2021, now-owner Larry Rabold, another of McMahon’s clients, purchased him privately.
Now, a year, some foot problems, and a new owner later, it looks as if Excellorator may be ready to make some noise.
