Laurel Park stakes: Fair odds board
Laurel Park has five stakes on the agenda for April 23, and The Racing Biz has a free handicapping contest.
So we wondered: How do our contest players see the stakes playing out? Using their selections as our guide, we calculated the fair odds of each horse in each of the five stakes races. Here’s what they came up with:
- MTROA: Pimlico plan may preserve current track layoutMaryland’s MTROA may jettison its plan to rotate the Pimlico racing strip, saving the historic track and a substantial amount of money.
KING T. LEATHERBURY STAKES
The 5 1/2-furlong, grassy Leatherbury has attracted an evenly matched field of 10, and while there’s a 2-1 morning line fave, our ‘cappers didn’t see it quite as simply:
3. True Valour | 7-2 |
9. Battle Station | 5-1 |
2. Grateful Bred | 5-1 |
1. American d’Oro | 10-1 |
6. Ima Pharoah | 10-1 |
5. Can the Queen | 14-1 |
4. Fair Catch | 14-1 |
7. Valued Notion | 26-1 |
10. Rad Paisley | 43-1 |
8. Dendrobia | 215-1 |
PRIMONETTA STAKES
The six-furlong Primonetta for fillies and mares has attracted seven, including two — Princess Kokachin and Street Lute — from the Jerry Robb barn.
DAHLIA STAKES
Fillies and mares will go a mile on the turf in this contest, which often produces one or more runners for the Grade 3 Gallorette, which is part of the Preakness undercard. Linemaker Keith Feustle has made In a Hurry the 2-1 favorite, and our ‘cappers would be happy to take those odds.
6. In a Hurry | 9-5 |
5. Traffic Song | 7-1 |
8. Adelaide Miss | 7-1 |
10. Deciding Vote | 12-1 |
3. Out of Sorts | 15-1 |
7. Foggy Dreams | 19-1 |
4. Coconut Cake | 21-1 |
9. Tic Tic Tic Boom | 35-1 |
1. Fionnbharr | 35-1 |
2. Mucha Mezquina | 43-1 |
11. Dontletsweetfoolya | 43-1 |
12. Double Fireball | 43-1 |
NATIVE DANCER STAKES
The nine-furlong Native Dancer on the main track has a somewhat modest group of seven runners scheduled to face the starter with Parx shippers Forewarned and Bird King likely to take the most action. Our ‘cappers see it as largely a three-horse affair.
2. Forewarned | 7-2 |
5. Bird King | 7-2 |
4. Workin On a Dream | 7-2 |
7. Plot the Dots | 7-1 |
6. Ain’t Da Beer Cold | 12-1 |
1. Rough Sea | 26-1 |
3. Big Venezuela | 35-1 |
HENRY S. CLARK STAKES
It’s a compact field of seven slated for this contest, with two — Field Pass and Chez Pierre — likely to take the most money. That’s what the morning line says, and that’s how our ‘cappers see it:
6. Field Pass | 2-1 |
7. Chez Pierre | 3-1 |
1. Mandate | 7-1 |
3. Sir Alfred James | 11-1 |
5. Oceans Map | 11-1 |
2. Highway Bound | 17-1 |
4. Rock On Luke | 19-1 |
