Technical analysis gallops in gallorette
The team of Chad Brown and Klaravich Stables likes to come to Pimlico on Preakness day and win, combining to take the Preakness in 2017 with Cloud Computing and then starting their 2022 Preakness day with Technical Analysis’s win in the $150,000, Grade 3 Gallorette Stakes.
The Irish-bred filly had no trouble going wire to wire in the 1 1/16-mile stakes for older fillies and mares over the firm turf, cruising home over a field that included recent Sand Springs winner Crystal Cliffs.

“I was just a passenger,” said winning jockey Jose Ortiz. “She was much the best today.”
The field of six broke in a line, with Crystal Cliffs, Technical Analysis, and Foggy Dreams three across inside the first furlong. Jockey Jose Ortiz moved Technical Analysis to the front, striding out to a one-length lead as they entered the first turn.
Around the turn and on to the backstretch, Ortiz settled the filly into an easy pace, with splits of :24.37 for the first quarter, :48.54 for the half-mile, and 1:12.26 for the six furlongs. Technical Analysis had no trouble holding on to the lead throughout, with longshot Foggy Dreams sitting second and Crystal Cliffs third. On the far turn, Tyler Gaffalione gave Crystal Cliffs her cue to move.
Crystal Cliffs moved into second as they rounded into the stretch, putting on her closing kick, but Technical Analysis had too much left for the Graham Motion trainee. She turned on the speed, easily putting distance between her and the challenger inside the last furlong. At the wire, the margin of victory was three lengths.
Technical Analysis ran the 1 1/6 miles in 1:41.40 over the first turf course at Pimlico. Crystal Cliffs was second and In a Hurry was third.
“She was able to take control of the race, which it looked like on paper, which made her the heavy favorite here,” said winning trainer Chad Brown. “So relieved to see her respond. Once she took control of the race going down the backside, I felt pretty good.”
Bred by Rabbah Bloodstock Limited, Technical Analysis is by British sire Kingman out of the Sea the Stars mare Sealife. The G3 Gallorette is her third graded stakes victory, with wins in the G2 Lake Placid and the G3 Lake George, both at Saratoga in 2021.
The post-time heavy favorite, Technical Analysis paid $3.20, $2.10, and $2.10. Crystal Cliffs paid $2.20 and $2.10. In a Hurry paid $2.10. The $1 exacta paid $2.40.
Technical Analysis has won five of nine career starts with earnings of $508,200.
