RACE NUMBER | CONTENDERS | COMMENTS |
Race 2 | 7-2-1-6 | We’ll take a bit of a shot in this allowance contest with #7 Brooklyn Heights (6-1). The Uriah St. Lewis trainee arrives off a bit of a break and doesn’t win much, just once in 24 starts. But in a seven-furlong test largely devoid of early speed, she should be on the front and dictating terms in the early going. We’ll see if she can hang on late… #2 Pistol LIz Ablazen (5-1) should be among her nearest pursuers, and the lightly raced Butch Reid trainee, who finished ahead of our top choice in last, should have a shot to win if that runner falters. She’s been second twice versus similar… Her last was a disappointment, but if #1 Peach Perfect (3-1) can return to her better form on the cutback and coming off the bench, she’s another who rates a big shot… #6 Closet Shopper (5-2) returned from a four-month absence with a credible try versus slightly better. She’ll be passing horses at the end, but whether the pace will do enough to weaken more tactical sorts could be a problem… |
Race 9 | 8-10-4-6 | With a couple of speedsters to tackle each other up front, #8 Jump Shot (9-2) might be sitting in the catbird seat just off a duel and ready to pick up the pieces. His trip in last — pressing just off the leader — may not be his ideal, and he still nearly won, but in this contest it looks as if he should be able to relax in third and fire when ready… #10 Jw’s Third Mischie (6-1) is perhaps the speediest speed, and breaking from the outside probably gives him the upper hand versus other early types. His last was a mess, but those were deep waters; note that he went off at 83-1. Dropped back where he fits, he can bounce right back today… #4 Flat Lucky (2-1) ran down our top choice late in last and will attempt to do so once again. He’s run two good ones since trainer Jamie Ness claimed him and moved him up to Parx and should be charging again late… #6 Fran’s Worrier (5-1) gets hot-riding bug boy Barbosa in the irons and figures to be involved early. If he can avoid getting cooked by the 10-horse, he has every right to be around late… |
