RACE 1
1-3-5-7
in the opening race on the Saturday night card, a two-turn event for $5,000 claiming fillies and mares, #1 Heidi T (3-5) looks poised to kick off the card in chalky fashion for trainer Anthony Farrior and appears difficult to play against in this spot. #3 Waterloo Rose (12-1) gets favorable inside draw and merits respect at a generous price here for trainer Edwin Tobin. #5 Don’t Tell Grandma (6-1) won two starts back for trainer Jeff Runco and was solid fourth in most recent outings. #7 Magic in Me (5-2) tackles older foes for trainer Ronney Brown and will also have to overcome outside slot in this spot.
RACE 2
3-4-5-6
In this interesting and rare three-turn starter allowance to cap the early daily double, #3 Honor the Fleet (2-1) draws inside his main rivals and gets the nod for mild upset here for trainer Kieron Magee. #4 Positive Phil (9-5) looms the tepid post time choice and gives trainer Anthony Farrior solid chance to sweep the early daily double. #5 Other Things Equal (5-1) makes local debut during busy campaign for trainer Norm Cash and deserves a look at a decent price. #6 Auts Revolution (5-2) will get plenty of support here but outside draw could prove moderately compromising.
- Sea Dancer gets valuable stakes win in CarouselSea Dancer, a younger half-sis to one of the top turf horses in the country, earned her first stakes win in Saturday’s Carousel at Laurel Park.
RACE 3
6-1-4-8
In this interesting, one-turn allowance dash for state-breds, #6 Cats Diamond Boy (12-1) gets the nod for genuine upset with favorable draw and expected quickness from the gate. #1 Unison (2-1) was decent third at this level after graduating two starts back for owner-breeder-trainer Larry Curtis and will get ample respect despite often tricky rail draw. #4 Icing (8-5) looms the solid post time choice for trainer Norm Cash and merits respect in that role. #8 Talking Teddy (15-1) gets favorable outside draw for trainer and former local rider Keturah Obed-Letts and could complete several gimmicks at a very generous price.
RACE 4
1-2-3-6
In this competitive, two-turn event for $4,000 claiming fillies and mares, #1 Chit Chat Girl (7-2) gets favorable rail draw for trainer Crystal Pickett and gets the nod for mild upset in this spot. #2 Seeds of Time (6-5) looms the potential odds-on favorite at post time for trainer Riquelvis Grullon and certainly merits respect in that role. #3 Bonnie Bluetooth (3-1) has been on the gradual improve since returning from Mountaineer Park and could continue that trend here. #6 Buff N (6-1) is still in search of first win this year from eight tries for trainer Crystal Pickett and could complete several gimmicks at a generous price.
RACE 5
3-1-7-8
In this interesting, two-turn event for $5,000 claimers, #3 San Antone (5-2) exits tougher elsewhere and seeks first win in nine starts this year as the likely choice for trainer Kieron Magee. #1 Elevated Forever (9-2) returns to the site of his only previous victory this year and merits respect with favorable inside draw. #7 Subject to Change (4-1) was solid third over the strip last out and deserves a look here for trainer Lloyd Scott. #8 Better Boogie (7-2) has only been worse than third once in last five local tries for trainer Kevin Joy and could forge very mild upset in this spot.
RACE 6
1-2-6-3
In this competitive, two-turn allowance for fillies and mares, #1 Dat Dares Gold (5-2) arrives off solid effort at Finger Lakes and gets favorable inside draw for local debut for trainer Kieron Magee. #2 Stay Out (3-1) steps up to this level off a series of good efforts elsewhere against claimers for trainer Dale Capuano and certainly merits respect here. #6 Mady Rose (9-2) has been consistent sort all year for trainer Javier Contreras and could forge mild surprise here. #3 Jamestown Road (4-1) has enjoyed success at the level in the past for trainer Ronney Brown and deserves a look in this spot.
- “Miracle” horse All Caps wins first in two yearsAll Caps nearly died from an infection two years ago. So how did she get to the winner’s circle at Charles Town Saturday? “A miracle,” says her owner.
RACE 7 – $75,000 Randy Funkhouser Memorial
8-6-3-5
In the featured event on the Saturday night card, the inaugural edition of the Randy Funkhouser Memorial previously offered as the A Huevo Stakes, #8 Muad’dib (3-5) looks to continue his dominance among state-bred males for trainer Jeff Runco following his narrow victory in the West Virginia Breeders Classic and solid second-place finish in the Grade 2, $1 million Charles Town Classic. #6 Free Sailin (5-1) has won a pair of state-bred stakes in his only two previous outings over the strip and now looks to topple the best older horses in the division while trying three turns for the first time and merits respect here. #3 Candy Invasion (9-2) finished a modest fourth in the WVBC Classic last out but gets a chance for redemption in this spot for owner-trainer John A. Casey. #5 Jungle Beast (12-1) also looks to tackle older foes while trying three turns for the first time and is seeking upset, sentimental score for family of race’s namesake.
RACE 8
9-7-6-5
In the Saturday night finale, a competitive, one-turn maiden $5,000 claiming dash, #9 Wootdareitis (6-1) gets favorable outisde draw in this intriguing event and gets the nod for mild upset in the nightcap. #7 Bigairtothethrown (6-1) also appears to be a live prospect with good draw and merits respect at a generous price. #6 Turtleneck Ted (9-2) should get moderate backing and could be able to work out a decent trip here. #5 On Spot (7-2) will also get ample support at the windows for trainer Norm Cash and certainly cannot be overlooked here.
