Laurel: Weekend stakes speed figures
Laurel Park hosted six stakes Saturday, with some of the top local runners taking part, among them Factor It In, Fille d’Esprit, and others.
When the dust had settled, trainers Brittany Russell and Jerry Robb, jockeys Angel Cruz and Jevian Toledo, and stallion Munnings all recorded two wins.
Here are the day’s stakes-winning stakes figs.
Factor It In – Fire Plug Stakes
The Racing Biz | Beyer Speed Fig | Equibase
Factor It In | 106 | 94 | 106 |
Factor It In was third in a pair of Grade 3 events in New York last fall. Now, off back-to-back local wins – earning 100+ The Racing Biz speed figs in each – the Carlos Mancilla trainee looks likely to stay home again for his next start. The Grade 3 General George appears a likely spot…
Plot the Dots – Jennings Stakes
The Racing Biz | Beyer Speed Fig | Equibase
Plot the Dots | 97 | 95 | 101 |
The Lynn Cash-trained Uncle Mo gelding made short work of this field, winning off by five lengths as he simply ran away from the field in the final furlong to earn his first stakes win. Cash’s trainees don’t miss many dances, so if this guy is sound he’ll probably run in a couple weeks, and you’d imagine the General George might be under consideration…
Fille d’Esprit – What A Summer Stakes
The Racing Biz | Beyer Speed Fig | Equibase
Fille d’Esprit | 96 | 86 | 100 |
This mare’s form has been a bit in-and-out at times, with the occasional clunker coloring her past performances. But like the little girl with the little curl, when she’s good, she’s very good. She was very good Saturday with an absolutely dominant win over favored Swayin To and Fro, who had trounced this one last out. Trained by Jerry Robb, Fille d’Esprit ran third in last year’s Grade 3 Barbara Fritchie over the strip and likely lands in that spot again…
Prince of Jericho – Spectacular Bid Stakes
The Racing Biz | Beyer Speed Fig | Equibase
Prince of Jericho | 92 | 83 | 94 |
The best three-year-old in Brittany Russell’s barn is Post Time. Isn’t it? This Munnings colt made his case for that crown with an easy, table-turning score over Heft Stakes winner Coffeewithchris. It was his third win in five outings and first stakes score, and the Miracle Wood, a one-turn mile over the strip next month, may be next up…
L Street Lady – Xtra Heat Stakes
The Racing Biz | Beyer Speed Fig | Equibase
L Street Lady | 74 | 71 | 86 |
L Street Lady won her second consecutive outing and earned her first stakes win in only her third career start. The sophomore Munnings filly parlayed a perfect trip under Jevian Toledo into a two-length score over Maryland Million Lassie winner Chickieness, who was almost nine clear of the rest. She’s also trained by Brittany Russell…
Award Wanted – Geisha Stakes
The Racing Biz | Beyer Speed Fig | Equibase
Award Wanted | 74 | 80 | 87 |
Speaking of good trips, Award Wanted got one of those in spades under Angel Cruz, stalking the pace before slipping through inside and powering away to win by nearly six lengths. A onetime $16,000 claimer, the Jerry Robb trainee earned her first stakes win and fourth victory in her last seven outings…
