Delaware Park cancels Wednesday, Thursday cards

Wildfires raging in Canada have led to air-quality alerts in the United States. Now they’ve canceled two days of racing.

Delaware Park announced Wednesday in an 8:26 a.m. text to horsemen that it would cancel its June 7 and June 8 race cards “due to HISA air quality guidelines & on the advice of the Delaware state veterinarians.”

In addition, the track is limiting morning equine activities.

“Please be advised due to the air quality all horses are only to be jogging while training,” the text continued.

According to the system used by the U. S. government, an air quality index greater than 100 is considered to be “poor.” The forecast for both Wednesday and Thursday calls for an AQI above 150, territory that is considered unhealthy.
