Delaware Park cancels Thursday card
Acting upon the recommendation of the Delaware Thoroughbred Racing Commission (DTRC) veterinarians in conjunction with the Horse Racing Integrity and Safety Authority’s (HISA) air quality guidelines, Delaware Park has canceled the live racing card scheduled for today.
Live racing is scheduled to resume tomorrow, Friday, June 30.
The cancellation is the track’s fourth in the last three weeks. It was forced to cancel June 7 and June 8, also because of air quality issues. On June 16 a freakish rain storm blew through the region and forced the cancellation of that day’s card. The track also lost its nightcap June 23.
According to www.airnow.gov, the air quality index in Stanton, DE, where the track is located, was 184 during the morning of June 29. Any AQI above 150 is considered to be unhealthy, with people encouraged to remain indoors when possible and limit their time outdoor.
Delaware’s air quality is projected to improve Friday and Saturday. Saturday is the first multiple-stake day of the season at Delaware, with three stakes, including the Grade 3 Delaware Oaks, scheduled.
