Delaware Park picks and analysis: July 26, 2023
Live racing at Delaware Park kicks off May 24 and runs through late October.
Once again this year, we will have Delaware Park picks and analysis for every day of live racing at the venerable track. Today’s card features eight races, and first post is 12:30 EDT.
Today’s carryovers: None
Race #1 Picks: 3-5-4-6
In this $25,000 maiden claiming race for two-year-old fillies at 5 ½ furlongs, #3 Princess Peanut (5-2) was no match for the winner in last but showed some late speed against tiring horses. This looks like a good spot. #5 Bobbi Two Steps (6-1) is a first-time starter who has a lot of workouts under her belt and could surprise. Andrew Simoff has won at 27% in 11 tries in debut maiden claiming races. #4 Ritz on Broadway (9-5) vied for the lead and held on to the place position in her debut. One to consider.
Race #2 Picks: 2-1-5-4
In this $6250 starter allowance race for fillies and mares at 1 1/16 miles, #2 Tiz Herself (3-2) should be able to control the pace. She had won five straight until her last try. In that race she had some early trouble, and it seemed to throw her off for the entire race. We look for her to rebound today. #1 Mavilus (2-1) is a closer that did not fire last time when she raced against much better at Parx. She won two back, beating Tiz Herself in the process. She looks like a top contender today. #5 Whyisshesoolucky (7-2) is another closer who will be making a late run.
Race #3 Picks: 8-6-4-3
In this $38,000 maiden race for two-year-olds at 5 ½ furlongs, #8 Fulmineo (6-1) is by Bolt d’ Oro, whose two-year-old get win at 18% on first asking. This colt has been working well and we have him on top today. #6 Linzer (5-2) has been working at five furlongs which is a very good sign. Also had a sharp three-furlong workout on 22 July. A top contender. #4 Nutella Fella (8-1) has a nice series of workouts, including a five-furlong workout on 15 July. Trainer Richard Sillaman is still waiting for his first win with a two-year-old this year after 11 attempts.

Race #4 Picks: 3-2-5-1
In this $5000 N3L claiming race at one mile, #3 The Colora Kid (2-1) will be getting ten pounds off again with apprentice Skylar Zaplitny aboard. This three-year-old gelding isn’t facing any monsters today, and we think he can make it two-straight. #2 Im your Papi (6-1) is sometimes hot and sometimes cold, but if he fires today, he has the ability to win this race. He should be one of the early leaders. #5 Mr. Boldacious (3-1) is usually in the mix but has not been able to win in nine tries this year. He figures to be in the picture again today.
Race #5 Picks: 3-2-4-6
OFF THE TURF. Picks are for projected main-track starters.
Joe’s Notes
- Jaime Rodriguez maintains a narrow edge in the jockey standings with 25 wins to Daniel Centeno’s 23…
- Shinelikeadiamond and R Averie Lynn are the first two horses to reach three wins at the meet…
Race #6 Picks: 5-3-6-7
In this $6250 claiming race for fillies and mares at six-furlongs, #5 Lunita (3-1) should be able to control the pace. She was not able to keep up with better, but at this level she may lead from gate to finish line. #3 Ladyness (5-2) was running well in Tampa before coming to Delaware. In her first race here, she was overmatched, but now dropping in class and we think she will improve. #6 Unbridled Sass (5-1) has been struggling but had some good races last year and is taking a class drop. One to consider.
Race #7 Picks: 3-4-6-1
In this optional claiming/starter allowance race at six furlongs, #3 Easy Day (7-5) is always competitive at this distance. He will be laying just off the pace and making a late move in the stretch. He is a horse for the course with four wins in five attempts at Delaware. #4 Pit Stop Man (5-2) has been running well in Maryland with four wins and two seconds in 11 tries. He will be on the pace and may be the one to catch. #6 Golden Juan (4-1) is another speed burner in this race who will be looking to lead from gate to finish line. He is going to have a lot of pressure up front today but may get a piece of the action.
Race #8 Picks: 5-6-4-1
In this $25,000 maiden claiming race at 5 ½ furlongs, #5 Rebel Joke (6-1) ran evenly in his dirt debut in last. He did show early speed at a mile and is now running in a sprint. Perhaps he will like the shorter distance. #6 Rush to Candy (3-1) has been running in maiden races at Charles Town and is now dropping back into the claiming ranks. He did show a little life in his last race. #4 Respirator (2-1) will be making his third start at this claiming level and is hoping to improve.
