Sea Dancer, a younger half-sis to one of the top turf horses in the country, earned her first stakes win in Saturday’s Carousel at Laurel Park.
Race 1 – Jonathan Kiser Novice Stakes
1. #1 Awakened (7-2) – Comes off a hurdle win in May, and a ground-saving trip could be enough to have a chance here but will hopefully be a better number than this
2. #5 Barbados (3-1) – Ran in a non hurdle two mile race in early June, clearly showing no distance limitations, but will need to improve here to have winning chances
3. #7 McTigue (8-1) – Seven for eleven in the money, and even if this isn’t the top win contender here, some solid performances give him a good chance to hit the board
4. #3 Caramelised (7-2) – Won a stakes hurdle race in April, and has a few races in here that would be good enough to beat this group, but has been a tad inconsistent
Race 8 – De La Rose Stakes
1. #6 Regal Realm (5-1) – A winner of three straight, this filly by Animal Kingdom might be in the perfect stalking position behind Evvie Jets and Technical Analysis with a chance to win late
2. #2 Evvie Jets (9-2) – Went gate to wire last time to beat Technical Analysis, and has the speed to do the same here but will need the right turf conditions and pace
3. #5 Technical Analysis (9-5) – The classiest here and very successful at Saratoga, this Chad Brown trainee might still have enough left at five to beat this field if she runs her best
4. #1 White Frost (3-1) – Has finished in the money in every try on turf and might be one to benefit from a quicker pace, plus has been good at a mile in four attempts
Race 9 – OC 80000b
1. #7 Kaufymaker (4-1) – This filly ran in the Breeder’s Cup Juvenile Turf Sprint two years ago, and after a near one year layoff, appears to be in good form winning two of three as favorite
2. #2 Scotish Star (3-1) – Drops from a grade II where she didn’t run her best, but is typically in the mix and should improve amongst this group with Irad Ortiz in the irons
3. #5 Sarah Harper (6-1) – Routinely fading in the stretch of her races last year, Joel Rosario may have found something by dropping this mare back two races ago which could help her here
4. #1 Happy Soul (5-2) – Hasn’t won in over a year, but this filly by Runhappy has a few solid recent efforts since switching to turf and could be in the mix with the right trip
Race 10 – Clm 16000n2L
1. #4 Baby Sox (6-1) – Had been on the improve then floundered a bit in her most recent race, but a return to her form two back gives her a great chance here at a price
2. #2 Fuligni (12-1) – This one has run plenty on muddy and sloppy tracks, maybe getting an edge if it rains but also adding Joel Rosario and should be good value
3. #7 Vax (7-5) – Just a bit more upside than Perpetual Praise and Mo Town Madison who come off wins, as this now Linda Rice trainee has speed figures that compare well to the rest
4. #6 La Aguililla (7-2) – Almost certainly not a winner with just one victory in thirty-seven starts, but a decent bet to hit the board or run fourth here
